Using the VAN Integration Wizard

Once you have generated your VAN API key in your VAN committee, you can input it into GetThru's VAN Integration Wizard.

How to access the VAN Integration Wizard

Admins and account owners setting up their account's first integration can access the VAN Integration Wizard by clicking the "Enable" button on the Integrations page.

Accounts that already have a VAN key can access the VAN Integration Wizard from the VAN Integrations Overview page.

NOTE - If an account has a MyVoters and EveryAction/MyCampaign key for both ThruTalk and ThruText, new keys cannot be set up via the VAN Integration Wizard. To add new keys, delete an existing key on the VAN Integrations Overview or VAN Integration Details pages.

Setting up a new VAN key

On the VAN Key Wizard page, you will select the GetThru Product and the Committee Side for their key. Then, copy and paste yourAPI key into the text input box. If an account already has one or more keys, you may encounter greyed-out options.

NOTE - If your account does not have ThruTalk, the option cannot be selected from the GetThru Product drop-down. If you would like to add ThruTalk to your account, please reach out to [email protected].

If the key is for ThruText, a toggle box for the "Texted" status will be shown. This is toggled on by default, but admins and account owners can toggle the "Texted" status off.

Once a selection has been made for the GetThru Product, Committee Side, and the key has been entered, click the "Activate Integration" button to finish setting up your VAN key. If you are unable to move forward with the VAN integration, please review and correct any errors that appear on the form.

If the same key is used for both MyVoters and MyCampaign, it will need to be added for one committee side at a time.

After the VAN Integration Wizard

Now that your VAN key has been entered into the system, you can review information about the key on the VAN Key Details page. If the key is invalid, you will see a red error tag on the Details page.

When the key was entered into the system, the VAN custom fields were automatically created and added to your account's exports. This is required for the functionality of the sync. You can check that the custom fields have been set up on the Custom Fields page.

To add another key, click the "< VAN Integrations" button at the top of the page to open the VAN Integrations Overview page. From the Overview page, click the "New VAN Integration" button to start the VAN Integration Wizard again.

We strongly recommend setting up a test campaign to ensure that the sync is functioning correctly. For ThruText, we recommend running your test with a dedicated number to reduce provisioning waits.
