Automatically sync your list of texted contacts
On accounts that have set up their texting VAN integration and have correctly mapped at group upload, enabling the "Texted" sync option on the VAN Key Details page allows you to sync back "Texted" in your Contact History. This is recorded for every initial message sent, regardless of whether or not the contact replies to your text. The status "Texted" will be logged in the Contact History section of MyVoters (or EveryAction/MyCampaign) for that contact's VAN Voter ID (and/or VAN Campaign ID).
There are a few intricacies to this sync that are important to keep in mind:
- This synchronization of the "Texted" result code will only occur when the initial messages are sent in a campaign that has a valid VAN ID (voter) or VAN Campaign ID custom fields attached, or both.
- If the initial message is sent through Admin Conversations outside of a campaign's open time, the "Texted" status syncs back when the campaign is open again.
- If multiple initial script messages are sent in ThruText to a contact on the same day with the same VAN Voter ID or VAN Campaign ID within your committee, VAN will only reflect the "Texted" contact history once for that day per file in VAN.
- If VAN-integrated survey question(s) are answered for that contact on the same day, it will change the contact history result code from "Texted" to "Canvassed" and update the timestamp.
- The sync will fail if your account does not have the canvass type "Text" and the result "Texted" available. This is very rare, but if you encounter it, please reach out to your VAN admins for assistance.
Once the "Texted" status is enabled, it will not work retroactively on messages that have already been sent. To obtain a few campaigns or a few weeks of messages, you can do message exports at the account or campaign level. For large amounts of data, or large amounts of time, please submit a historical data request.
If you would like this feature on for your account, please access the VAN Integration Overview Page and click "Edit" for your ThruText API key to enable the setting. Enabling this feature for either committee side will enable it for both the MyVoters and MyCampaign committee sides.
