Pinpointing the right contacts for the right campaign

ThruText allows you to build Target Lists using groups as well as recipients of past campaigns. Here's how it works:

Segments

"Segment" is GetThru's word for a portion of your universe. A segment can be either a group or recipients of a past campaign. Every targeting group begins with a Base Segment, which you can add or subtract from.

Targeting to Groups

Targeting groups is straightforward. Simply click the "New Segment" button and use the pulldown menu to select one of your uploaded groups as your Base Segment.

Targeting Past Campaigns

When targeting the recipients of past campaigns, first, select the campaign you would like to target. Then, you have the opportunity to filter recipients in two ways:

1. You can filter based on reply status -- meaning whether or not the contact responded to the initial message in a previous campaign.

"Any reply status" and "Only contacts who did not reply to the past campaign" will include all contacts that meet those conditions, whether or not a contact was sent an initial message in that targeted campaign.

2. You can filter based on how the contact responded to survey questions. This option is only available if survey questions were added to that campaign.

  • "No Filter" means do not consider this survey in filtering.
  • "Any Response" means filter to contacts who had a response to the survey (regardless of what it was).
  • "No Response" means filter to contacts who did not have data input on this survey.
  • Selecting a specific response means filtering to contacts who had a particular answer to a survey question recorded.

"No Filter" and "No Response" will include all contacts that meet those conditions, whether or not a contact was sent an initial message in that targeted campaign.

NOTE - When you use a "Past Campaign" segment, the dropdown will hide any past campaign that is more than 1 year old from view. This speeds up the loading and functionality of your list building, letting you get to texting faster. All campaigns will still be available for viewing and cloning in your account's "Campaigns" tab.

Advanced Targeting

Once you've set your base segment, you can add or remove additional segments. "Add" will add the contacts in the new segment to the existing Target List; "Remove" will remove the contacts in the new segment from the existing Target List.

NOTE - For an improved campaign launching experience, we recommend restricting targeting to under ten segments.

All Add actions are considered "OR" relationships. For example, if you start with a group that has targets A, B, and C, and you add a group that has targets D, E, and F, you will end up with a Target List of A, B, C, D, E, and F.

It's also important to note that the order of your segments matters. For example, let's say I have three groups. One has Annie, Brad, and Charles. One has Daniel, and one has Brad and Daniel.

If my base segment is A, B, C.
Then I add D
Then I remove B, D
My final group is A, C

If my base segment is A, B, C.
I remove B, D
Then I add D
The final result is A, C, D

NOTE - If you see a targeting error when attempting to move on to the next step of campaign creation, check to see that a specific segment is not added twice or added and then removed.
